Ground Improvement - Wick Drains

Hauraki Piling installs wick drains as a method for accelerating settlement through vertical drainage.

Long term settlement of soft silt and clay often creates serious problems in construction. This design problem can be overcome by creating closely-spaced artificial vertical drainage paths through which the pore water can flow. These wick drains and can reduce settlement times from years to months meaning most settlement can occur during construction, thus keeping post-construction settlement to a minimum.

Wick drains consist of a central plastic core which functions as a free-draining water channel, surrounded by a thin geosynthetic filter jacket.
